Overview

The Hospitality Management Internship offers the opportunity for undergraduates and graduates to capitalize on the expertise of our leaders in their respective fields. The internship also serves as a Manager-in-Training program, allowing participants to accelerate their career path and have many of the tools to be successful and considered for future full-time year-round Management level positions at many of the Boyne Resorts.

 

The internship helps participants’ bridge the gap from school, developing on the job experience from our experienced professionals. Participants will be exposed to both front and back of house operations, and will train first-hand by working alongside our experienced staff and leadership teams. Interns have the opportunity to further advance their skills and become a much more marketable employee.

Responsibilities

Interns will be assigned to work in the following core lodging departments:

  • Front Desk : Serving guests during the check-in/out process, billing, offering excellent customer service and accommodating requests. Maintaining excellent communication with all other hotel departments, and having hotel and local area knowledge to better serve guests and make recommendations. Gain understanding of reservations, bookings, cancellations, and rates.
  • At Your Service : Provide accurate information regarding the mountain, activities, dining options, hours of operations, lodging, transportation, office equipment, and driving directions. Have a good working knowledge of our property management system and job duties of other departments, excellent organizational skills to manage lost and found, a willingness to help others, greet guests in a warm, welcoming, and professional manner.
  • Concierge : Learn about the resort and the town of Big Sky to better assist guests in planning activities and meal reservations, answer guest questions, load ski days onto sky cards, be the resort's information hub for guests.
  • Housekeeping : Learn all aspects of what it takes to run a housekeeping team, turning over departure rooms, servicing in-house guests, conducting inventory, scheduling, and managing staffing levels.
  • Health Club : Greet guests in a friendly, welcoming, and professional manner, ensure guests sign into health club and are aware of and abide by health club policies, clean and stock restrooms, pool areas, fitness centers, and health club storage areas, monitor use of fitness centers and pool areas, remove and replace pool covers at open and close, maintain cleanliness and appearance of pools, hot tubs, and pool areas (i.e. shoveling snow and skimming leaves from pool surface).

Internship Rotations:

  • Responsible for executing and observing day-to-day work in 11 departments within the Lodging Division
  • Start with 1 week of training
  • Rotation 1: Spend 10 weeks rotating between and working in the 5 core focus lodging departments (At Your Service, Concierge, Front Desk, Health Club, and Housekeeping)
  • Rotation 2: Spend 3 weeks rotating between and shadowing in the remaining 6 lodging departments (Bell Staff, Facilities Maintenance, I.T., Reservations, Security, and Spa Reception)
  • Rotation 3: Spend 2 weeks working in participant’s 2 favorite core focus departments
  • Final Project to conclude the internship

Qualifications

  • Must complete the agreed upon terms of internship
  • Hospitality, Recreation, Tourism, or like Major required
