Overview

Overall management of Grooming Department in a cost effective manner through organizing shifts, planning snow placement, training, and ensuring safety precautions are followed during every shift.  As a customer focused organization, a crucial part of each employee’s job is to get and keep guests.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, motivates, evaluates, and directs staff to ensure adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established goals and objectives.  Ensures that all employees receive the training, support, guidance, feedback and resources necessary.
  • Required to be available for variable hour shifts as grooming operations run 24 hours a day at times.
  • 5+ years of snow cat and other heavy equipment experience.
  • Directs the establishment of departmental standards, guidelines and objectives and maintains other administrative processes to ensure proper planning, efficient operation of departments and successful achievement of resort goals.
  • Monitors and evaluates operational projects to ensure the successful execution of activities and to improve the effectiveness of the areas of responsibility.
  • Represents resort at industry specific functions and local community as necessary to contribute operational expertise and value.
  • Maintains and enhances a guest focused culture in all areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains schedules in compliance with regulations and authorities having jurisdiction; manages responsibilities in compliance with resort safety policies.
  • Maintains current status on legal issues and technological advances which impact the industry; maintains awareness of scope and progress of competition.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of employees, guests and all other outside contacts.
  • Ability to delegate responsibility, motivate and lead direct reports to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Familiarity with state and federal environmental standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Maintains a continuing learning curve by evaluating individuals on their performance and introducing proper work ethic and methods.
  • Maintains an accurate record of snow conditions by recording all problem areas, rocks, weak spots and forwarding information to shift foreman.
  • Manages employee production levels by proper training, scheduling and prioritizing hill maintenance.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by following company policies, proper training and orientation.
  • Completes all tasks safely with no damage to equipment or to areas of work by evaluating performance levels as well as with feedback from crew leaders, team and foreman.
  • Provides superior service to our customers (internal and external) by following Resort Etiquette Guidelines while interacting with guests.
  • Contribute to team effort by participating in Job Sharing, assuming responsibility for the cleanliness of the resort and safety of guests and employees; participating in safety meetings; accepting diverse assignments; maintain a positive and friendly attitude and demeanor in all internal and external interactions.
  • Meet service level objectives and department goals as set forth by immediate supervisor.
  • Directly supervises 5 to 8 employees in the Grooming Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Spring and Summer Requirements

  • Coordinate with operations to help execute goals within Spring/Summer programs/projects. Will help develop and capital/on mountain projects and other resort initiatives within the resorts infrastructure. 
  • Manage and organize team members to assist in project work as well as daily maintenance and operations
  • Ability to work with excavator, front end loader, and a variety of heavy equipment. Handle the specialty of project design, including but not limited trail maintenance and construction, snowmaking construction, and resort infrastructure.
  • Assist in the monitoring, planning and implication of equipment maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair when needed. 
  • May be required to be trained and work with machinery and specialized tools to complete projects.    
  • Contribute to team effort by participating in job sharing, assuming responsibility for the cleanliness of the resort and safety of guests and employees; participating in safety meetings; accepting diverse assignments; maintain a positive and friendly attitude and demeanor in all internal and external interactions.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor's or Assciate degree preferred; 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak effectively.
  • Basic math skills are required.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and apply a common sense of understanding.
  • Valid State Driver's License, Resort Certification on any necessary equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.  The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
