The Freeride Head Coach will be responsible for the overall guest experience, operational training, coaching staff, work distribution, and administration as it relates to communications, record keeping for payroll, scheduling, staffing, redemption of products and services, employee evaluations, feedback, etc., and to instill a safety culture throughout The Summit SnowSports School.  Essential focus will be to provide compelling leadership for employee experience and provision of guidance to deliver exceptional guest services. Supervising the culture around team work, best in class program delivery aimed at conversion and retention, and by working and playing safely both indoors and outdoors, you help achieve the end goal of financial strength.

Responsibilities

The following statements are intended as general illustrations of the work in this classification and are not all-inclusive of the specific position.

  • Deliver inspirational programming in a safe and fun way.
    • Effectively communicate to develop rapport with existing staff and enhance employee retention.
    • Help identify and recruit qualified expert level skiers and riders with credentials and experience necessary to coach in the Freeride and Freestyle programs at The Summit.
    • Actively recruit and support competitive athletes as participants in the program.
    • Build client relations to optimize Freeride/Freestyle programs and other pre-sold camps/events.
    • Partner with other Alpental program leads by providing coaches and plans that will engage with youth participants and drive one of the main feeder pipelines for Alpental Freeride.
    • Ensure that all participants have paid and filled out any/all Releases of Liability required to be in the program of participation.
  • Work with marketing team to create compelling promotional ads, events and camps that will appeal to the target audience.
    • Collect digital content (photos/video) from Freeride/Freestyle programs.
    • Create Freeride content to be used in the Summits social media channels and campaigns by utilizing the marketing team and outside content providers.
    • Connect with program participants and future participants by actively engaging with and inspiring them through social media activity.
  • Create and deliver coaching philosophy
    • Create and deliver developmental and competitive level curriculum for athletes from 7yrs to adulthood
    • Actively train and supervise coaches in the delivery of the Freeride curriculum, especially in terms of safety
  • Supervise hiring, activation, evaluation & seasonal separation of staff.
    • Supervise and update personal information on employee details, as well as ensure compliance is carried out around privacy laws, company policies, best practices, etc.
    • Supervise scheduling to optimize instructor head count and cover programming (i.e. products, prices, times, locations) adequately, by targeting resources to cover the needs of the programs.
    • Supervise training and professional development of all freeride/freestyle coaches.
  • Pursuit of IFSA 100-300, USASA/USSA 100-400 or PSIA/AASI Freestyle 1-3 are highly encouraged to coaches with the 3 year goal to achieve 100% certification of coaches through one or more of these organizations.
  • Payroll supervision to achieve 100% accuracy.
    • Communicate information required to support accurate daily payroll and accurate data collection.
  • Supervise labor to revenue by making sound decisions when creating groups and assigning work, monitoring daily results. Be nimble and adaptable to adjust plan if needed to get desired net contribution.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and support other LOBs by providing staff, supervision, training, or other support as needed
  • Work with other departments to ensure smooth operation of the program.
  • Assist SnowSports Manager:
    • Develop & deliver programming that finds an ideal model for guest, employee and company.
    • Develop & deliver programming that is financially sustainable, meets the departments financial metrics, and meets goals of volume and growth.
    • Develop & deliver programming that inspires youth and keeps participants actively engaged in the sport from childhood through adulthood
    • Enthusiastically lead people from start to finish, optimizing the potential of the School.
    • Identify and evaluate guest, employee, and industry trends, and take action to adjust programming accordingly to capitalize on these trends.
    • Deliver independent projects as determined by the SnowSports Manager or SnowSports Director.
  • And other duties as assigned

COMPETENCIES

  • Supervise Team Work - by working effectively with fellow leaders, engaging coordinator support tiers, to supervise front-line employees that guide guest experience, help schedule around variable business volumes and ultimately help the school meet demand on peak and off peak dates.
  • Supervise Professional Development - Orient, train and coach the instructors to enhance employee retention, by creating outstanding employee experiences, through targeted employee engagement.
  • Supervise Guest Experience - Provide all guests with a caring and inspirational guided snow sports experience.
  • Supervise Safety - develop a safety culture to achieve zero employee and guest incidents per season.
  • Supervise Financial Strength - Stimulate repeat student volumes to match or exceed unit volume goals, as well as support labor as a percentage of revenue goals, to achieve desired net contribution.

Qualifications

  • Profound working knowledge of The Summit SnowSports School or another snow sports school of similar scope.
  • Actively engaged in IFSA/USSA Freeride programs, or similar organization, as a participant, coach or official.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to evolve, adapt and change.
  • Capability to deal with deadline and workplace pressure, while maintaining a professional presentation.
  • Ability to prioritize high value, high leverage projects, over lower priority tasks to deliver within a lively, and often chaotic, environment.
  • Ability to guide quality experiences for guests and employees, time and time again.
  • Deliver superior internal and external customer service, optimize the sales culture.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • IFSA Level 100 required; IFSA Level 200, USSA Freeskiing Level 200, 300 or higher preferred.
  • If no IFSA Level 100, must be obtained by December 31, 2017.
  • PSIA/AASI Youth Credentials and Certification favored.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Social Media.
  • Siriusware proficient at “associated work related functions”.
  • Track record for leading people passionately and being emotionally connected with population diversity both ON and OFF snow.
  • Track record for producing outcome and delivering on established goals.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
