Overview

The Retail Sales Associate has an excellent sense of humor, can handle difficult situations with a calm caring manner and knows what it takes to go “above and beyond” for our guests. This position provides top-level customer service with guests face to face and over the phone. Responsible for selling and restocking merchandise, inventorying, and overseeing retail shop. Takes initiative to get any and all jobs completed accurately and proficiently and is someone who doesn’t understand the term “not my job.”

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and ascertain what each customer wants or needs.
  • Describe merchandise and explain use, operation, and care of merchandise to customers.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires.
  • Compute sales prices, total purchases, and receive and process cash or credit payment.
  • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
  • Prepare sales slips or sales contracts.
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
  • Maintain records related to sales.
  • Demonstrate use or operation of merchandise.
  • Prepare merchandise for purchase.
  • Watch for and recognize security risks and thefts and know how to prevent or handle these situations.
  • Inventory stock and requisition new stock.
  • Tag, arrange, and display merchandise to promote sales.
  • Exchange merchandise for customers and accept returns according to store policy.
  • Clean shelves, counters, and tables.
  • Open and close cash registers, performing tasks such as counting money, separating charge slips, coupons, and vouchers, balancing cash drawers, and making deposits.
  • Bag or package purchases and wrap gifts.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Basic computer experience required
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED. Customer service and industry experience, both in person and on the phone preferred. Fluent in any language other than English a plus.
