  • Overview

    The SnowSports Manager will be responsible for the culture, administration, recruitment, training, operations, labor management, and profitability of the SnowSports School. The manager will provide compelling leadership focusing on the employee experience and will provide guidance to deliver exceptional guest services.  Inspiring and developing teams, delivering best in class results aimed at conversion and retention, working/playing safely both indoors/outdoors, you help achieve the end goals of financial strength, outstanding guest service, and industry leadership.

    Responsibilities

    The following statements are intended as general illustrations of the work in this classification and are not all-inclusive of the specific position. 

    • Effectively communicate to develop rapport with existing staff and enhance employee retention, commitment and engagement.
    • Identify recruitment needs for ski/ride, youth/adults, rookie/veteran and by base area.
    • Develop creative recruitment strategies to achieve targeted number of required staff.
    • Drive recruitment, onboarding and end of season separation for departmental base area staff. Coordinate uniform inventory management, distribution and return, for base area staff.
    • Maintain accurate scheduling and staff accountability to optimize instructor head count and cover programming (i.e. products, prices, times, locations) adequately, by moving resources to cover demand.
    • Train and oversee professional development of indoor staff and instructors to guide early childhood, youth, teen and adult experiences, through sales, administration and on-snow time.
    • Lead base area School sales and collaborate with other departments to manage sales, reservations and other operational procedures to maximize and cover guest volumes.
    • Payroll management and troubleshooting to achieve 100% accuracy.
    • Ensure there is accurate personal information input and database management of employee details, as well as ensure compliance is carried out around privacy laws, company policies, best practices, etc.
    • Build guest relations to optimize Consecutive Week Lessons and other pre-sold lessons.
    • Manage labor to revenue by making sound financial decisions, monitoring daily, weekly, monthly and annual results.  Be nimble and adaptable to adjust plan if needed to get desire net contribution.
    • Assist SnowSports Director:
      • Develop & deliver programming that fits an ideal model for guest, employee and company.
      • Enthusiastically lead people from start to finish, optimizing the potential of the SnowSports School.
      • Identify and evaluate guest, employee, and industry trends.
      • Deliver independent projects as determined by the SnowSports Director. 

    COMPETENCIES

    • Lead Team Work – work effectively with fellow leaders, building supervisor, lead and coordinator support tiers, lead front-line employees that guide guest experiences, manage schedules around variable business volumes, and partner with other business units.
    • Lead Professional Development – Orient, train and coach staff to enhance employee retention, by creating outstanding employee experiences, through targeted employee engagement.
    • Lead Guest Experience - Provide all guests with a caring and inspirational guided snow sport experience.
    • Lead Safety – develop a safety culture, to achieve zero guest and employee incidents per season.
    • Lead Financial Strength - Stimulate repeat student volumes to match or exceed unit volume goals, as well as monitoring labor as a percentage of revenue, to achieve desired net contribution.

    Qualifications

    • Profound working knowledge of the Summit SnowSports School or another School of similar scope.
    • Level 2 PSIA/AASI Certification and Youth Credentials preferred.
    • Ability to work independently with minimum amount of supervision.
    • Ability to evolve, adapt and change.
    • Capability to deal with deadline and workplace pressure, while maintaining a professional presentation.
    • Ability to prioritize high value, high leverage projects, over lower priority tasks to deliver within a lively, and often chaotic, environment.
    • Ability to guide quality experiences for guests and employees, time and time again.
    • Deliver superior internal and external customer service, to optimize the sales culture environment.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • MS Outlook, Word, Excel (in-depth knowledge of Excel preferred), Social Media.
    • Siriusware - proficient at “associated work related functions”, or demonstrated proficiency at running a similar ERP system.
    • Track record for leading people passionately and being emotionally connected with population diversity both ON and OFF snow.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university preferred; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably within the snow sport industry.
