Overview

Sunday River is seeking a Director of Snow Surfaces. 

 

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who is self-motivated with experience and knowledge of snowmaking systems (operation, maintenance and design) including multistage vertical turbine pumps, centrifugal air compressors, fluid mechanics, and electrical motors as well as experience with Pisten Bulley snow groomers and SnoSat software programs. They will have a passion for skiing and snowboarding, in-depth knowledge of snow quality, and experience leading a team of 50 or more Team Members. This role will oversee the vehicle maintenance, grooming, and snowmaking departments at the resort.

Responsibilities

  • Create and operate within financial budgets
  • Hire, develop, evaluate and coach Team Members
  • Assist with capital project planning and implementation as needed
  • Communicate with Resort departments dependent of snow surface management
  • Coordination of resources between snowmaking, grooming and vehicle maintenance
  • Ensure the snowmaking system operates at maximum capacity and efficiency
  • Ensure the vehicle maintenance and grooming departments operate effectively and efficiently
  • Manage the timely opening of terrain from a snow surface standpoint
  • Assist departments with daily operations as needed

Qualifications

The candidate will have a high level of understanding and experience in the following areas:

  • Fluid mechanics
  • High speed rotating equipment
  • Centrifugal air compressors
  • Multistage vertical turbine pumps
  • Horizontal and vertical electric motors
  • Air drying systems
  • Water cooling systems
  • Fabrication and welding skills
  • Electricity and electrical systems; be able to read an electrical schematic
  • Candidate must have a high level of trouble shooting skills mechanical as well as electrical
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in snowmaking and grooming
